Toledo Food Co-op stocking candles

That's right, Toledo Natural Food Co-op is stocking Pure Soy Candles.  Now you can purchase local soy candles made with care at a local store with regular hours. What's better?  A portion of the proceeds with be donated to the co-op, so by buying the candles through the co-op instead of directly you will be supporting both the co-op and Pure Soy.  Candle prices will remain the same at $6 for the 8ox jelly jars and tins.  Even better, I will be running a special through the co-op.  5 candles are just $25, that's $5 a candle instead of $6.

Scent Profile: Strawberry Shortcake

Strawberry Shortcake

Scent Profile: Green Tea Lemongrass

Green Tea Lemongrass

Manufacturer's Description: This bright and natural smelling citrus begins with a top note of orange Valencia, bergamot tea and plum wine. The heart combines jasmine, violet, lavender and orange flowers. The dry down is a clean citrus musk.
This fragrance oil is infused with natural essential oils, including Jasmine. 

This green tea scent is fresh and clean.  It fills the room, and smells very similar to matcha green tea.  

Ocean Breeze & Rain Water

Ocean Breeze and Rain Water are somewhat similar scents, though distinctly different.  Both are fresh, summery scents with a clean base.

Ocean Breeze is the scent of a fresh ocean breeze with a top note of fresh, apple, melon, orange and bergamot. The heart blends lavender and bois de rose leading to a base of woody violet and musk.

The fragrance reaches balance while burning, when both fruits meld into a strong fragrance that has a citrus punch, a hint of peach, and a naturally derived sweetness.

I find the scent to be uplifting and refreshing.  The citrus is prominent and is balanced with a nice juicy-sweetness.  It has a fresh, fruit smell but is not overwhelmingly sweet and doesn't smell artificial like some fruit candles can. 

For this batch I choose to dye the candles pink.

Why Soy?

Why buy soy candles?

Soy candles burn cleaner.  They give off up to 90% less soot.  Some makers claim their candles are soot-free, which isn't entirely accurate.  If there is fire, there is soot. Soy does not have all of the additives other candles like paraffin do, so the soot output is significantly less!  Other factors also effect how much soot is given off, such as cotton vs zinc wicks, and wick length.  If you are getting black soot on your container, the wick may be too long and the fire is causing a reaction with the glass.

Soy candles are healthier.  Relating to less soot, since candles have less additives and are made from a plant instead of petroleum, they don't have the carcinogens that paraffin candles do.  They are cleaner, and healthier!

Soy candles last longer.  Soy candles can last up to 50% longer!  Soy burns longer and slower.

I buy soy grown in the USA, so you will also be supporting US farmers!
